Thanks for your message on the July 6, 1973 concert. This was an event of the Newport Jazz Festival/New York -- the second year after the festiv= al abandoned the Rhode Island venue. Could it have been the Arkestra's firs= t NJF appearance?

First, let me express my intense interest in the release of the material.=

I attended that concert. The NJF '73 was my very first exposure to Sun R= a, live or on record. =

Second, a 2CD set could be at least somewhat filled out with the 7/4/73 quartet performance. This was recorded by the VOA, according to the venerable RLC. The quartet's performance was part of a jam session tribute to Louis Armstrong at the Newport Jazz Festival. I attended that event, too. I wasn't a Sun Ra fan then, and I can't give details, but I have a copy of the NYT review, and I =

believe Gilmore was part of the quartet. Spaulding and Priester =

made the jam session that afternoon, but I don't recall if they participated with Sunny. [Maybe Szwed has covered this stuff in the bio that I must be more patient to see.]
