Samurai Celestial solo gig
Samurai Celestial solo gig
Just thought some of you might find this interesting: former Arkestra drummer Samurai Celestial will be playing solo this weekend in Tuscaloosa, AL at the annual Kentuck Festival, an arts and crafts expo. Samurai, according to the Tuscaloosa News, will be playing alone to the accompaniment of pre-programmed keyboards and computers, so that he may replicate the spacey sounds of his mentor, Sun Ra. I've got to go check this out, as this is about the closest I'll get to hearing an Arkestra member in Tuscaloosa these days. Plus, this is a real country festival, with bluegrass & country musicians, homey arts n crafts, ect.- he should shake things up quite a bit if he launches into "Interplanetary Music" amidst the old folks and the guys who hand carve birdhouses to sell. If you're passing through T-town on Saturday and would like to know how to get to Kentuck, please let me know.
Oh, sorry for the confusion on my part between Dave and Phil Alvin. Thanks to Glenn for clearing that up. :)
