Re: SR museum?hipness
Re: SR museum?hipness
On March 17th, Stephen Ramirez posted a comment that things are = "generally pretty quiet here. There used to be quite a lot of = interesting discussions," and I responded that "I used to post fairly = often, but there were very few replies, and most of those were from a = few people with psychological problems who automatically fly into attack = mode. Others on the list have witnessed this and have apparently = decided it's not worth it to participate (this is referred to in = politics as the 'chilling effect'). So here we have a list of 3OO = interested members, and probably more than 275 never post anything at = all." =20
This latest offensive by Knoel Scott is exactly what I was referring to = -- and offensive it is, and is meant to be. Mr. Scott feels that we = should all shut up and do whatever it is he thinks we all should do, = which is hardly the intent or purpose (pace Bill Dixon) of a Sun Ra = internet discussion group, and he hopes to intimidate the group into = silence, and eventually out of existence. Why? Because he hates the = very fact of its existence, and ours. Unsubscribe, "Townsend"? That's = exactly what he wants you to do.
It's not really a matter of hipness or the lack of it (perhaps = "Townsend" picked the wrong phrase there); it's a matter of Mr. Scott's = rudeness, bullying, hostility, personal insults, arrogance, [fill in = your own descriptives]. Mr. Scott is a hater, his spirit has gone bad = (for whatever reasons, which are not our fault), and that spirit = represents only himself, not Sun Ra, not Marshall Allen, and not the = Arkestra, and in fact is the opposite of the joyful, loving, playful = spirit shared between the Arkestra and the fans.
Next, we have from Mr. Bukowski his opinion that Knoel Scott is in the = "inner circle" and therefore is not to be disagreed with. Mr. Bukowski = is a person who recently boasted on this list that he sold a collection = of 6OO 9O-minute Sun Ra and Arkestra bootlegs on cassette for money; he = is also a person who gets very ugly if anyone points out that maybe some = of the proceeds should go to the Arkestra. Mr. Bukowski is a person who = has posted his mantra about people having their "undies in a wad" 2O = times in the past two years, and I didn't even think it was cute the = first time. And then, of course, Ms. Pearlstine drops in once again to = inform us that we "gotta love" Mr. Bukowski. No, we don't gotta.
About this "inner circle" business, we do not know what relationship = actually existed between Sun Ra and Knoel Scott, but I do know that he = is not in the inner circles of the Arkestra now, and he has been = estranged from the Arkestra off and on for quite a long time, though he = does still perform in the Arkestra. And well he might, because = regardless of whatever is wrong with him spiritually or emotionally, he = is among the greatest musicians / dancers / entertainers on this = planet, and I'll be the first to tell you that. I'll always be glad to = see and hear him on the bandstand, even if he wants to kill me -- and he = might.
Mr. Scott had a Web site at http://www.knoelscott.com, which has now = somehow turned into a jewelry site with no mention of him on it, and on = that site he had a document called http://www.knoelscott.com/Resume.htm, = and on there he himself stated that he left the Arkestra in 2OO6, though = we don't know whether he left voluntarily or not. At = http://www.knoelscott.com, it showed that he was living in Alaska for = several years, and there were concert dates and other details shown. = Despite the fact that the site has been sold to a jewelry company (or = whatever happened there), you can still see some parts of it here:
http://web.archive.org/web/20071107180216/knoelscott.com.=20
But you can't see the specific document at resume.htm, so you'll just = have to take my word for what was on it.
Also, if you look at Mr. Scott's January 13th posting on his myspace = page (http://www.myspace.com/knoelscott, scroll a little less than = halfway down and look at the right side of your screen), you'll find him = stating that he's now living in Nancy, France. And likewise on Facebook = at = http://www.facebook.com/knoelscott#!/profile.php?id=3D100000571133359&ref= =3Dts ("Have relocated to France...").=20
The Arkestra home base is in Philadelphia (about which, by the way, Sun = Ra said, "To save the planet, I had to go to the worst spot on Earth, = and that was Philadelphia").=20
And we still haven't heard from the other 275 members of this group.

I simply don't accept Mr. Scott's condemnations and guilt trips. Even if = the shoe fits, I choose to go barefoot.
If admonishments from on high are what list members seek, include me = out. I will seek inspiration elsewhere.

Methinks a history lesson is needed. Knoel Scott is a member of the Arkestra. Knoel Scott has been a member of the Arkestra for many years. Knoel Scott has studied with Sun Ra. Knoel Scott knows of the Ancient Wisdom. Knoel Scott is in the "inner circle." Thus, Knoel Scott IS hipper than thou, Jack, dig?!
