This refers to Sun Ra's course "The Black Man in the Cosmos" at Berkeley.

We could dig out that list and re-publish here ... However, when most of the works of that list are not available (any more)? Or go to the museum ...

The Information Book. As far as I know this book was given to Sun Ra in Turkey by members of some society sometime in the late 1980's. It consisted of several hundred(?) looseleaf typed pages channeled from a spiritual\extra-terrestrial beings, much in the manner of the Urantia book. He gave some pages (xeroxed I assume) to a few people, one of whom wrote a little about it in the liner notes to some CD (I can't remember which one). If anyone could locate a copy, that would be something... A brief summary of the reading list for Sun Ra's Berkeley class can be found in the liner notes to Soundtrack to Space is the Place (Evidence), courtesy of John Szwed. The esoteric figure of the late 19th Century. The Urantia Book, mentioned above. Appeared early 20th C. Sun Ra was particularly interested in this book in the early 70's. Karlheinz Stockhausen took it up soon after. There is another channeled book from the early 19th C. in the reading list too. Some recent reading of interest: The work of Francis Yates, for background into history of esoterism; the work of Jacques Derrida, for insight into the linguistic\ontotheological depth of Sun Ra's verbal output; and something I'm reading now called "Secret Texts" edited by Roberts and Ormsby-Lennon (ISBN 0-404-64251-9) taking on the notion of esoterism in texts in general. As far as Friedlander goes, nothing in English in the Library of Congress catalog except for some commentary by Jack Zipes "The operated Jew". Same for Mynona. Hope this is of some use to folks. I hope that as we delve deeper into the Sun Ra myth, these dichotomies of serious\wacky, weird\normal, etc. that so often assert themselves in Sun Ra commentary become neither decided nor transcended nor ignored, rather faced head on, accepted as the gift\Trojan horse of Sun Ra.
