Re: Tape Trees

Don, Thanks for checking with James Jac(k)son about the tape trees. We should all be directing our contributions to him, then. The incorporation of the Arkestra gives them some legal standing and may help them in negotiations with record companies. But they won't see any money from previously released Ra recordings (like those on Evidence, or Leo or Black Saint or whatever) until and unless they are awarded a share of Sunny's estate by American courts. That process could take years. In the near term, the only money they are going to be able to get from record companies will be upfront payments for previously unreleased material (or in the case of Evidence, material that is being rereleased, but that Ra did not sign contracts for before he left the planet). Truly a mess. On another topic, David Goren has offered some engineering help with reel-to-reel tapes in the NYC area. We'll try to set something up (most likely through John Szwed, who is a lot closer to NYC than I am) so that Hunter and Mims will be able to check their tapes, and so that dubs can be made. Thanks to all of you who offered to help. rlc
