wood/good
My friend Glenn's account:
I went to hear Sun Ra almost every night for two weeks in 1974 at the old Five Spot in NYC. He included in almost every show a spoken word piece he was working on which played on the words "wood" and "good" throughout. Something like "Have you understood the knowledge of the wood of the tree of good and evil...?" and went on from there for several minutes. I guessed it to be a paraphrase of something vaguely biblical, combined with his outer space rap. It was delivered without apparent irony.
On the last night of their stint he did this again -- reiterating the rhyming "wood"s and "good"s. He get ot the end and said "The tree is wood. It's woody. It's Woody Woodpecker."
