I thought that Atavistic including the single with the reissue of Secrets of the Sun would have been a no-brainer, even if it would be a needledrop. Not sure what album reissue it would fit in with now (unless someone finally puts out What's New with the original B-Side). Think about it, in 5-10 years time, we might just have all of the Saturn LP's reissued, that would be amazing.

I wish they would re-release the
single somehow, it is a pretty great piece. I used to have a
copy of it along with what is rumored to be the mysterious
"Celebrations for Dial Tunes" (wonder if we'll ever have
verification on the existence of that one)...unfortunately, I
can't locate it these days, so hopefully either Atavistic or Art
Yard will find a way to get it out there.

That was seeded on Dime a while ago. The Dial Tunes recording is the poetry session from WXPN on 12/25/76 and the Blue single was supposed to be a first generation dub from a DAT rip.

I transferred the Orbitration/Blue One single at my house about 12-13 years ago. I think it was 4 or 5 years ago that I made a Christmas day torrent on DIME of the WXPN radio show and the single. Nowadays, DIME would not allow this torrent.
I don't know if the same person who owned that copy of the single still owns it. But I believe the only other known copy resides at the University of Chicago in their Alton Abraham collection.
I hope the various odds and ends (these recordings, the Heartbeat single, the recently discovered '55 acetate, etc.) can all see some legit release and wider availability. Also, I did the best I could with my mid-fi equipment, but Orbitration really deserves a state-of-the-art transfer for the ages.

first off - thank you for both!
about the WXPN broadcast - to me, it sounds like they are playing
arkestra recordings in the background. i am basing that on how the
broadcast is mixed. with sun ra reading his poetry so clearly and
calmly, it is hard to imagine him conducting and playing at the same
time.

That is definitely the case. I don't know if the Saturn recordings or the poems have been identified yet. I'm pretty sure there are a few unpublished items among the recitations.

It is a great record. It escaped rediscovery before the Saturn Singles set appeared on Evidence.
Besides "Orbitration," the Heartbeat single still awaits reissue.
