Re: future[istic] Arkestra concerts
Dear Margaret:
Thanks so much for the very informative post. Look forward to participating in this forum in the future!
I believe you are correct that there are no current concert dates among the links at www.elsaturn.com. The "concert links" page just seems to just have some outdated information on some related musicians, but no concert schedules. (Hope you read this message, Peerpee!)
There is definitely a need for Arkestra concert information to be clearly disseminated on the web. In the meantime, thank you for keeping us informed!
Inter-Planetarily Yours,
Will Thomsen wthomsen@pacificnet.net

Hi, William! I'm happy to know you & happy to try to help with your inquiry. Actually, your search is a continuing source of some frustration & confusion to quite a few others as well; if you'd like to acquaint yourself with some of the very recent correspondence that's been going on among the Saturn group members on this topic, you could go into the Saturn List archives & simply read the messages retained there from the last three weeks or a month. You can see the archives at: http://listserv.surfnet.NL/archives/saturn.html & then just follow the instructions there.
As for me, I am editor & publisher of a newsletter & Web site here in New York City that covers hundreds of area concert listings every month, along with service announcements for musicians, a section of continuous events, & the great Joe McPhee's Web site. As such, I'm constantly receiving, absorbing, & disseminating good information on concerts here & elsewhere, which I take great care to verify, though as I state at the beginning of my publication, "mistakes & changes do happen," so of course always call before going. I have been a long~time advocate for all liberation musicians everywhere, & of course I adore the Maestro, Marshall Allen, & the Arkestra, & always put particular love, care, & attention to their musical doings. My newsletter is called "Art Attack!," & its Web address is http://www.jazznewyork.org .
At present, I am carrying the following Arkestra &/ or Marshall Allen bookings in my work. Unfortunately, contrary to another correspondent's recommendation that came in right after your inquiry, there are no apparent concert listings for the Arkestra at <www.elsaturn.com> or on any of the links that I could find, though I suppose I may have missed something; if so, someone please correct me! Meanwhile, I remain bewildered by this absence, since I have E~mailed my Arkestra/ Marshall Allen listings to Mr. Moudry several times, but still they do not appear on the site, nor are my messages acknowledged. Perhaps Mr. Moudry has been too busy lately. (What say you, Joe?)
To the best of my knowledge, all great musicians need publicity, & people want to know what they are doing, & when there are beautiful Web sites already established to celebrate them, I cannot imagine what prevents this valid & valuable & quite normal use of those sites. Any superband's Web site normally shows six months or a year's worth of advance tour dates & concert schedules, if necessary marked with the categories "confirmed," "tentative," & "under discussion" or the like. Then if some of the bookings don't make it through all the necessary arrangements, they are simply marked "sorry, cancelled" or "postponed" or dropped from the Web site. I have offered repeatedly to help with publicity for the Arkestra, since it's right up my alley anyway (actually, I believe I am helping quite extensively right now in writing this letter), I do not charge anyone for this work, & I believe & am told by many that I do a glorious job of it.
Well, enough explanation, I think, & I do apologize for being so wordy, a result of weariness, I suppose. Here are the listings for the Arkestra &/ or Marshall Allen that I am carrying as of now (sorry to say there are none among them for the West Coast just now, if that's where you are). Once again, of course, do your own checking to confirm, & everyone, please let me know your Arkestra news if you have some I'm missing:
