Hi everybody

In the past few days I listened a couple of times to BLACK MYTH/OUT IN SPACE, which a friend of mine just brought from Belgium for me. What an incredible recording! The free-est I've ever heard from Ra and the Arkestra. The only other live recording that I own is COMET KOHOUTEC which is also great and out-there, but not so VERY out, at least at a first listen.

An interesting sideline story: the friend who brought the disc for me made a little party with the close mates in order to celebrate his return from Europe after six months. He already knew the music, and put the second cd (Berlin) to play. The reactions to the first song - out in space - were radical. Some loved it, some hated, but everybody was amazed. A girl started to complain after some minutes (oh, this music is too intense) and a little after she was really upset (it's giving me a headache!). Even though her boyfriend plays in a heavy metal band and is a hardcore fan of Diamanda Galas, that free-blowing was too much for her. Then , when the second track -- walking on the moon -- started, she was delighted (oh, is it the same record? i like this). The reactions to free jazz (and specially Sun Ra) are always fun !!

So now I'm hungry for some other live stuff. Some questions raised: what is the oldest known live recording of the arkestra? In the early 70's, did they use to play the old big band tunes? (I would love to hear how the band in black myth/out in space would play Saturn or El is the sound of joy)? And what about the other recordings, like LOVE IN OUTER SPACE or SOLAR MYTH APROACH - are them in the same vein? Did Alan Silva record much with Ra?
