Hello all- Been reading about the whole bootleg/live show trading all week now, and I think James just hit the nail on the head. If Evidence did anything money wise for the Ra group it was certainly in a lump sum and I doubt individual sales put any money in the groups pockets. If anything people should support the current group under the direction of Marshall Allen by buying there cd and paying to see them play. As fans this is all we can do, deal with the here and now rather than worry about where so and so got there past recordings and on what format. Brian

Your point is well taken, but as a lover and supporter of this music, what should I do? Please give some guidance in working through this dilemma. I admit that I buy the bootleg vinyl "reissues" because I can get a replica of a rare album at a very affordable price. Also, if I have a little extra money, I'll try to buy an original Saturn if the opportunity arises. And I plan on buying the Evidence reissues when they come out. Personally, I don't see how buying a vinyl bootleg of a Saturn album is doing financial harm to the Sun Ra Arkestra, Ra's family, or the Abraham estate. Especially, considering that the bootlegged titles have not been officially released by either party I mentioned. Also, with the limited availability of the boots, I don't think it will effect sales if those titles come out as official CD releases. And I'm pretty sure that if they come out officially, the folks who bought the vinyl boots will also buy the official CDs. It is my understanding that even with the official releases, the Arkestra does not see any royalties. What is your recommendation? If I buy any legitimate Sun Ra CD, the Arkestra receives nothing, if I buy the vinyl boots, the Arkestra receives nothing. Should we boycott the Evidence reissues? Should I start cutting monthly checks for the all the artists who's music is important to me to subsidize them? I don't think that is practical for an individual to do. The music business is evil by its nature. It exploits the artist! It always has and it will probably continue. Don't blame the lovers of the music for this exploitation. Most of us feel we are supporting the music by showing our love and enthusiasm for it. Space is still the place! James
