 New Orleans:  The Music Business Institute will return

to the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans to celebrate its seventh annual Cutting Edge Music Business Conference and Roots Music Gathering, August 25-29, 1999.

 The Cutting Edge/Roots Music Gathering will bring to

New Orleans a host of music business professionals, panelists and participants from all over the world to take part in the Conference and to honor outstanding roots music pioneers.

 The 1999 Cutting Edge Roots Music Gathering will offer

workshops in grantsmanship and media relations, roots music panel discussions, music business forums, and professional education seminars for attorneys, CPAs, and record executives. A special series of presentations in music, dance, visual arts, film and video will be conducted at the Contemporary Arts Center and other locations throughout New Orleans.

 The 1999 Roots Music Gathering will examine roots music

communities, how roots musicians draw inspiration from these communities and how these traditions are reflected in their music. Master classes, a cornerstone of the Gathering, will be conducted by noted musicians. The Gathering's Ultimate Sidemen Oral History Project will give roots musicians the opportunity to tell their stories in their own words and through the recollections of their peers.

 Special roots panel presentations on "When Jazz Became

Rhythm & Blues", the "Zydeco Community", and Handy Awards-nominated "Sonny Boy Williamson and the Glendora Project" will highlight this year's Roots Music Gathering.
