?: Sun Ra / R Kirk connection

Hi,

yesterday I came to a friend place to listen to R Kirk: "Now Please Don't You Cry, Beautiful Edith", and I noticed Ronnie Boykins on Bass. (IMHO: the recording left him apart)

But a few month back I already wonder about any connection between Sun Ra an Kirk, when I listen to "Volonteer Slavery". The title track, sounds Ra-esque to me.

Does anyone know about any meeting/reunion, musical exchange?
