"Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore." I better get out of here, yes. Keep you all happy.

On March 17th, Stephen Ramirez posted a comment that things are "generally=
=20
retty quiet here. There used to be quite a lot of interesting discussions,=
" and=20
responded that "I used to post fairly often, but there were very few repl=
ies,=20
nd most of those were from a few people with psychological problems who=20
utomatically fly into attack mode. Others on the list have witnessed this=
and=20
ave apparently decided it's not worth it to participate (this is referred=
to in=20
olitics as the 'chilling effect'). So here we have a list of 3OO interest=
ed=20
embers, and probably more than 275 never post anything at all." =20
This latest offensive by Knoel Scott is exactly what I was referring to --=
and=20
ffensive it is, and is meant to be. Mr. Scott feels that we should all sh=
ut up=20
nd do whatever it is he thinks we all should do, which is hardly the inten=
t or=20
urpose (pace Bill Dixon) of a Sun Ra internet discussion group, and he hop=
es to=20
ntimidate the group into silence, and eventually out of existence. Why?=
=20
ecause he hates the very fact of its existence, and ours. Unsubscribe,=20
Townsend"? That's exactly what he wants you to do.
It's not really a matter of hipness or the lack of it (perhaps "Townsend"=
picked=20
he wrong phrase there); it's a matter of Mr. Scott's rudeness, bullying,=
=20
ostility, personal insults, arrogance, [fill in your own descriptives]. =
Mr.=20
cott is a hater, his spirit has gone bad (for whatever reasons, which are=
not=20
ur fault), and that spirit represents only himself, not Sun Ra, not Marsha=
ll=20
llen, and not the Arkestra, and in fact is the opposite of the joyful, lov=
ing,=20
layful spirit shared between the Arkestra and the fans.
Next, we have from Mr. Bukowski his opinion that Knoel Scott is in the "in=
ner=20
ircle" and therefore is not to be disagreed with. Mr. Bukowski is a perso=
n who=20
ecently boasted on this list that he sold a collection of 6OO 9O-minute=
Sun Ra=20
nd Arkestra bootlegs on cassette for money; he is also a person who gets=
very=20
gly if anyone points out that maybe some of the proceeds should go to the=
=20
rkestra. Mr. Bukowski is a person who has posted his mantra about people=
=20
aving their "undies in a wad" 2O times in the past two years, and I didn't=
even=20
hink it was cute the first time. And then, of course, Ms. Pearlstine drop=
s in=20
nce again to inform us that we "gotta love" Mr. Bukowski. No, we don't go=
tta.
About this "inner circle" business, we do not know what relationship actua=
lly=20
xisted between Sun Ra and Knoel Scott, but I do know that he is not in the=
=20
nner circles of the Arkestra now, and he has been estranged from the Arkes=
tra=20
ff and on for quite a long time, though he does still perform in the Arkes=
tra. =20
nd well he might, because regardless of whatever is wrong with him spiritu=
ally=20
r emotionally, he is among the greatest musicians / dancers / entertainer=
s on=20
his planet, and I'll be the first to tell you that. I'll always be glad=
to see=20
nd hear him on the bandstand, even if he wants to kill me -- and he might.
Mr. Scott had a Web site at http://www.knoelscott.com, which has now someh=
ow=20
urned into a jewelry site with no mention of him on it, and on that site=
he had=20
document called http://www.knoelscott.com/Resume.htm, and on there he him=
self=20
tated that he left the Arkestra in 2OO6, though we don't know whether he=
left=20
oluntarily or not. At http://www.knoelscott.com, it showed that he was li=
ving=20
n Alaska for several years, and there were concert dates and other details=
=20
hown. Despite the fact that the site has been sold to a jewelry company=
(or=20
hatever happened there), you can still see some parts of it here:
http://web.archive.org/web/20071107180216/knoelscott.com.=20
But you can't see the specific document at resume.htm, so you'll just have=
to=20
ake my word for what was on it.
Also, if you look at Mr. Scott's January 13th posting on his myspace page=
=20
http://www.myspace.com/knoelscott, scroll a little less than halfway down=
and=20
ook at the right side of your screen), you'll find him stating that he's=
now=20
iving in Nancy, France. And likewise on Facebook at http://www.facebook.c=
om/knoelscott#!/profile.php?id=3D100000571133359&ref=3Dts=20
"Have relocated to France...").=20
The Arkestra home base is in Philadelphia (about which, by the way, Sun Ra=
said,=20
To save the planet, I had to go to the worst spot on Earth, and that was=
=20
hiladelphia").=20
And we still haven't heard from the other 275 members of this group.
