I just checked my Earthly Recordings of Sun Ra 2nd edition and there see= ms to only be one Paris gig that looks like it could be the one. It was Nov= 29, 1971, but it doesn't give a venue. For those that have this book it's pa= ges 176-177. For those that don't I'll scan the pages and attach them to a following mail. Have to wait till tomorrow though, as I don't have a sca= nner here at home. Is that ethical BTW. I would type it out, but there's quit= e a lot of text and I'm not the best typist.
I was grateful too. Do you know how exciting it was to get a whole unhea= rd Sun Ra concert.

Unfortunately I didn't have access to a studio and master tapes. Instead I was in work doing it on a PC. I was sent WAV the files with a view of fixing certain areas where there were dropouts, or one channel cut-out, basically fixable problems, like where audio has reduced and can be restored by boosting it. Boosting as in the English sense, not the US. There was quite a lot of electronic distortion/feed-back that also needed to be removed too. In short, with a LOT of patience, and with the making of many audio filters, I managed to get a lot of the problems ironed out. There were a couple of things that couldn't really be fixed, and that was Marshal Allen playing his flute was too close to the mic and causing bad over blow (wind on mic noise). The other was the performers moving between the fixed mics, where you would get quite severe drops on certain instruments. We decided not too mess with this too much as it was part of the actual performance, and not a technical problem. If for example I'd leveled the flute and June Tyson's vocals, so them moving between mics would go unnoticed, then that would totally have affected your mind's image of the performance as you were listening, and also reduce the three dimensional feel of the audio and make it feel more flat. I don't normally do this type of restoration work, like technical problems in a recording. I mostly restore vinyl recordings where the master no longer exists, so I was really grateful to Peter at Art Yard for giving me the chance. Got a few free Sun Ra LPs and CDs too, which was nice. Last I heard it's now in the mastering process and should be coming out later this year. It really is a cooking gig. Think you'll like it.
