In Order to Survive/Krewe

I knew it. Already I'm being crucified. I have been reminded of Ray's long tenure with Ra and the accolades which he deserves. I'm well aware of this and habe the greatest of respect for Michael and all of the Arkestra's work with Ra. I followed and enjoyed the group for close to twenty years and often commented on the spirited work which Ray brought to the group.

My point here was that William Parker and his group managed to evoke that spirit in a manner that came about unplanned (or was it?), a result of the strength and beauty of the music and dance. It was not a Sun Ra show. The next day another audience member and I shared that very same observation.

I don't think (maybe he can tell me differently) that Ray and the Krewe are limited to a Sun Ra thing. I've seen the group only once, but I undrstand that they bring in many more elements than Ra to the group. I have seen the Arkestra (after Ra's departure) as well and salute Marshall Allen, James Jacson, and all of those who spent many years with Ra's vision.

I don't mean to tread on sacred ground here, but I'll stand by my feelings that I have not heard anyone get closer to the spirit of Ra as I did that evening.
