A Ra interview from '70s

Saturnites, I recently came across a piece that I wrote about Ra in the early '70s for "The Grapevine Journal," a black student newspaper at Michigan State University.

The peg was a Ra performance at a local nightclub, the Stables, although the interview (pardon my fuzzy memory) may have come from a session that Ra held with some press types in Detroit when he appeared there at the Rainbow Room, being run by John Sinclair. One passage may be of interest:

While he talks, he jots notes, directions, pictures on sheets of legal paper. When the sheets are finally masses of confused lines, he flips them and repeats the process.

When he explains that his El Saturn Research s working on humanity and the alterdestiny, he writes out "Saturn" and "alterdestiny."

"Like I'm saying, humanity is headed for doom." (He writes "DOOM" in bold letters.) "The scientists are even saying that." (He scratches an "X" on the page.) "The intellectuals are even saying that." (He scratches another "X.") "So, for that." (He scratches a third "X.")

"Therefore, the only thing that can be done, they ought to have an alterdestiny." (Underlines "alterdestiny.") "There has got to be a substitute destiny placed in place of the destiny people have. Because this destiny has to be placed in the vacuum of zero." (He writes "0.") "This life of humanity has to be placed in the vacuum of zero." (He writes "zero.")

"Since nature hates a vacuum, they have the right to substitute a destiny for it." (He draws a rain of arrows pointing in toward the "0.")

"But they have to acknowledge that it's zero here." (He stabs the center of the zero emphatically and repeatedly as he continues.)
