Holiday Greetings - Pertubations!
Maybe you hate Xmas letters, but there is a need in some people to think about the old year, and send thoughts during the holiday season. To me, it a period of awe and gratitutde for the year's activities to share with those dear to me.
And because, this year, there is no fuss nor bother, no Christmas cards, no stamps, no parking at the post office.......... and even the gracious DELETE sign for those who complain about personal feelings on the list, I've decided to use the E-M, to write to my family.
Two things:
An extraordinary confluence at the new Knitting Factory: (74 Leonard Street)
Sun Ra Festival. May 22-30. Every musician on my computer Address Book has been invited, with David Murray and Michael Dorf both excited about bringing back the Sun Ra All Stars (Bob can tell you about that lineup) If somebody out there has not received an invitation, and wants to be on the mailing list, please send me your snail mail at once, since Michael Dorf will be planning the program very soon.

For those new on the list, or haven't been following it, Chris Trent of UK kindly made four copies of Chopin, performed by Sun Ra at Paris Philharmonic in the 1980's.
Marshall Allen has performed this piece many times as a duet during Sun Ra's last years and with the Arkestra after he left the planet.
Other performances:
Vijay Iyor brought together India Cooke, Kash Killion, Gino Bonair, Eddie Gale, Lisle Ellis, koto player, Glenn Spearman, at Yoshi's, Oakland.
Michael Monhart brought together Julien Priester and Stuart Dempster, as well as his own band, to perform the piece in Seattle.
Fred Morris, San Francisco Conservatory, and the John Coltrane Church band gave an unforgettable rendition at the regular church service.
And a very surprising and excitable experience was with Joe Gallant and his 16 piece band in a 15 minute version.
I have sent out hundreds of copies of the Chopin piece, asking everybody to know the piece, in case it is performed in their area.

Vijay Iyor, San Francisco and Phil Gelb, Tallahassa, will visit the Yale Club, to negotiate a Sun Ra Tribute there. Both will be in NYC until Jan 4, which makes it convenient!
As some of you have known for years, I have had an obsession with the Myth of Synchronicity in which I live. Nothing is ever an accident to me.
Believe me, the confluence at the Knitting Factory during this holiday season is as extraordinary as the famous one August 8, 1988, when Cecil and I were together in Berlin! Well, maybe, with all those 8's, the Chinese nation had to celebrate!.
But, a reasonable answer has been finally given to me, at the very end of 1994, and the very twilight years of my life. Synchronicity is not an acausal event. We just don't have all the information immediately, and so we marvel at its sense magic.
To the physicist, there is no real magic in it. There is awe and gratitude, that we become aware of it, act upon it, and be grateful to be a part of this miracle of connectedness. My friend from Princeton, Brenda Dunne who has written: "Margins of Realty" says it depends upon Information Theory, which I now understand with this E-Mail system.
But, yesterday, an engineer (who else can be so straightforward, another Malcolm, his name is Martin M,) (MM), and in my language:
It's matter of pertubations Completely random Made thousands of years ago Or even yesterday How can we measure The drops in an ocean? The volocity? The volume?

And so I want to thank you all for making this coming together. All the important information I have received from all of you, even the scoldings about the traffic, was so important. I think Sun Ra is very much with us and sends his greetings and gratitude to all.
And a special thanks to Bob Campbell, who is the guru of us all!
