I'll second that, but add that humans each execute their own programs according to their own perspectives and histories and set of assumptions and perceptions, and it is in their nature to believe all of these things about themselves because that is how the human organism works; humanity is like a layer of cognitive skin wrapped around the planet, each cell perceiving and reporting each itch. And we know from our own personal model of this neural-wrapper that quite often itches are phantoms, but quite often they are legitimate alarms, so we check them all out.

but we don't hate one cell for throwing an inconvenient, unwelcome or even a phantasimal alarm; it is just the way the skin works, it reports what it believes to be true, and the overall organism then decides whether the alarm is valid and what if anything to do about it.

So it is with behaviours on a mailing list where there are all points of view, and unfettered by the risk of being punched, there is a certain immediacy to an instant 'honesty' that can cause rumbles; when my 4 year old throws a tantrum over dinner, I tell my wife he's not being disrespectful or unreasonable, he is just being honest, lacking by his age the physical mechanism and skill to moderate his own behaviour to mold his actions into the contortions we call "Being Civilized" :)

but that's ok. we still love him, and yes, sometimes we do still send him to his room.
