Re: John Gilmore in Jazz Journal International

Gino Robair asked where JJI is published. It's out of England, and costs around $70 or so. Good reviews usually, very decided preference for more traditiona l styles of jazz (they recently asked, in a review, whether Monk should seriously be considered a song writer...). Issues often have a feel like you're reading something a little jazz society would publish - inside jokes abound, snotty (but sometimes pretty funny) putdowns of those disagreeing with their interpretations of things. It's like sitting in some "jazz club" listening to the old timers talking about the old "real" jazz and how today jazz just isn't the same...and they persist in playing up older obscure English swing musicians at the expense of much more recent developments, ie. bop and beyond.

It's still fun to read tho :")
