Sun Ra Book Project

Peace Friends,

I have avoided directing my crowdsourcing barrage
at this community....until this point.

I'd love to answer questions from this group about the
form and direction of my project.

Clock is ticking; this is the final push.

Hey Thomas

Could you tell us about the form and direction of your piece, and why it's vital now for our planet?

Sun Ra Book Project

Thank you Charles,

I am appreciative of all the Sun Ra scholarship that we have to work with, including, of course SITP, which is an excellent platform for all subsequent explorations. My project is, in some ways, a big gamble, and in some ways a no-brainer. While equipping myself with the tools of analysis and research, I have, however, approached this project more as a father than a professor. It is offered towards the generations whose lives have yet to be tainted by the brutal and vacuous world made by Man and Money.

My project is an externalization of the massive intellectual renovation that Sun Ra catalyzed (his term) in my life, with the hope that others might be similarly infected by his redemptive germ. If my prose is tinged with anything like desperation, it is only because I truly believe that our species has backed itself into a corner and now stands with a predator drone pressed against its temple, ready to blow our own brains out at the slightest loud noise. It's a shame. It's despicable. It's a waste. I think in the body of Sun Ra's teaching are answers that can bring us back from the edge and allow us to pass this world off to our children and the trees that surround them without the slightest bit of shame for how we have conducted ourselves over these last several thousand years.

If my book is effective (and I cannot, we cannot know this yet) then it will be a user's guide for Alter Destiny. My book is not about music, or record dates, or childhood friends. The Execution of Sun Ra is about a little black man from a broken home in the backwaters of American history, a Darwin-scaled genius, with the laser-like vision to see that we are still essentially little more than knuckle dragging monkeys with micro-chips, and the love to kick us squarely in the ass until we see that it is time, now, to STAND UP.

Yup, Sun Ra kicked my mortal human ass.
And now, I'm kicking back.

Mega Kudos Thomas.

73 minutes to go and well enough over the goal-post!!
Grand celebrations, and great reading (after great writing) well in order.
Yours in space

Thomas,

After reading your explanation, as well as your article from the journal, I had to back this. Could it be what we all need in this time and perhaps we all need to stand up together with some ideas from the man from Saturn. And, I hope you going over won't mess up anything.

cheers and slack,
