I have been really enjoying the transcriptions of Ra utterances that
periodically grace my Inbox and thought that I would weigh in with the
contribution of a particular favourite of mine along with some thoughts on the
cd on which it now resides.
The track in question does not have a known title give by Sun Ra but appears
no.216 (230) in Robert L. Campbells' Earthly Recordings 2nd.Ed. under the title
You Could Build a World Without Us".
This nine minute plus track was first played by Sun Ra during the 1987 WKCR
festival. Upon hearing a cdr of it some years ago I was struck by its similarity
in sound, tone, instrumentation and general vibe to the music on Saturn 81774
'The Antique Blacks'. I have always suspected that it is from the same session
and Artyard opted to release a remastered version as a bonus track on its '
Antique Blacks' re-issue.
Regarding the apocryphal poetry lp 'Celebrations for Dial Tones' , surely that
title is a mis-rendering of Ra's poem/monologue regarding the 'Celebration of
the Dual Change' heard on this lp. Given that Antique Blacks is in large part, a
poetry recitation lp is it not possible that these two supposed lp's are in fact
one and the same?
If any of this conjecture has been aired elsewhere I apologise. Anyway, please
enjoy the following and merry Christmas to all.
YOU THOUGHT YOU COULD BUILD A WORLD WITHOUT US
Planet Earth planet Earth
What now, what now my friends?
Can't you see it is the end?
What now little man?
So you thought you could build a world without us
Can't you see how foolish you have been
You cannot, you cannot build a world without us
So, so you would like to go out into outer space into our territory?
Do you think we will allow you to visit us?
You do not know how to treat each other right.
You shall not enter into our territory the way you are.
If you refuse to recognise me I refuse to recognise you.
So Earth - now you have a choice -you didn't have a choice before.
You have dared to say that we of Space do not exist.
We are all around you we've been here a long time, watching you.
We are not your enemy - you refuse to be our friends
I am not your enemy - you refuse to be my friend
Take the big gamble - take the big gamble
I am the magic lie - greater than your truth
Your truth is what you are
How ridiculous you are
All you produced was a polluted planet
You can't even take care of the fishes in the sea
So why should I ask you to take care of me
You can't take care of the paths in the park
You have polluted the air that keeps you alive
Why should I let you visit me in my kingdom in space
It's big enough for you
I will not let you go there until you learn how to treat me
So here we are you and I
We have met before on the road of destiny
You and I - I told you then you'ld be where you are now
You kept on telling me about your righteousness
And you ran to the right road and you went the wrong direction on the right
What price your righteousness?
Let's try something different for you -something like being alive
Why don't you step out of your world of death
And see the light of the living eternal immeasurable greater universe
Take the big gamble - come to outer space
I am visiting you - why can't you visit to me?
I am visiting planet Earth - why don't you visit me?
You have nothing else to do
And always remember
If you are not my friends
I am not your enemy
