The Sun Ra Arkestra under the direction of Marshall Allen will make the first stop on its 2011 World Tour at the Eyebeam Atelier, 540 West 21st Street (between 10th & 11th Ave) on Saturday April 9, 2011 when the Arkestra headlines an event titled "MIXER: Past Futures" happening from 9 pm to 2 am. The Eyebeam Atelier can be contacted at 212-937-6580. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. All attending must be 18+ and 21+ with ID to drink. Also on the bill will be Saturn Never Sleeps (featuring King Britt & Rucyl) and other bands to be announced.
MIXER, Eyebeam’s quarterly showcase for audiovisual performance and interactive art, goes back to the future – to the dawn of the imagined internet.
On Saturday, April 9, MIXER: Past Futures transforms Eyebeam’s vast West Chelsea space into an immersive environment combining video, music, design, and fashion to evoke visions of the future – both utopian and dystopian – as depicted through literature, movies, and video games of the recent past. MIXER: Past Futures conjures the spirit of both early internet theories and visual style, suggesting an alternate version of our own current reality, reflecting what was and what could be.
