A classic. By the way, supposedly Lamar Washington = Albert Ayler.

interesting interesting interesting; I hadn't put it together before, by way of Canned Heat and like so many, just shortly afterward, yet another too-mysterious Laurel Canyon related 'suicide'?  One might say the Arkestra members could thank their lucky stars they met up with Sonny, but then, I suppose they'd say that's literally pretty obvious ;)

if you would like to read more about life in the lc, with plenty of
'dishing', this is a pretty good read...

oh yes, been following that unfolding story for a while now, easily the most frightening conspiracy-nut bit of journalism I've read in a long long time. even if the only really true parts are those I was able to verify through Wikipedia! Thanks for posting those links and I invite others to dive in and enjoy the ride of your life.

Stephen King could not weave such a horror tale!

The LC media-war waged over the mind-set of the world's emerging middle-class youth and television-society (of any ethnicity) when set against what the Sun Ra Arkestra was trying to accomplish in the late 60's and on, makes for an epic tale worthy of a few films in itself. No accident that Space Is The Place should hit the big screen right at the earnest height of it (although the Overseer continues to this day).

Fold in what Wikipedia tells us of the 5%-ers and the turf-wars over hip-hop and it all gets completely out of control, with our man Sonny seeming the lone fighter for sanity smack dab in the centre of the storm (ie Philadelphia, 19th century birthplace of The Secret road-to-riches philosophies?)

If the LC story is even a tenth true, it's no wonder the 'new' music media machine wanted to paint Sun Ra as a lunatic alien clown, a myth that for me was immediately dispelled the very first time I heard him speak.  Sanity is indeed a relative term in the hands of some.
