Watts Towers Day of the Drum and Jazz Fest

Lost Angelinos:

I'm writing to promote to all those in the LA area this weekend the Watts Day of The Drum and Watts Jazz Festival, both occuring at the famous Watts Towers. The Day of the Drum is Saturday. I went last year, and it was fantastic. Percussion groups representing drums from around the world played all day: gamelan, taiko, african (sorry about the generic term), latin, etc (no Lightning Drum, however). In addition, there was great food and a fairly hip drum circle. Sunday is the Jazz Festival, highlighted by the Horace Tapscott Arkestra. All in all, it should be a beautiful, hot, sunny day, so bring your dancing shoes (for the dancers), sunscreen (for the fairskinned), and your sunglasses (so you can see what the others ain't looking at) to the Watts Towers and listen to great music, eat some BBQ, and check out the Watts Towers Arts Center gallery. [unfortunately, progress on the restoration of the Towers has been delayed, so they are mostly under scaffolding]

Peter.
