Just gushing FYI:
The new Die Like a Dog quartet's release AOYAMA CROWS is simply superb, an=20 exquisite documentation of what may be the most exciting band working today.= =20 kondo's electric trumpet is particularly inspired, amazing really. it's=20 available on FMP, & can be gotten directly through them at their website;=20 it'll only take a week to get to the states & when all's said & done, at jus= t=20 under 19 bucks.
Br=F6tzmann mentions Ayler (Die Like a Dog being a self-professed Spirit of=20 Ayler Band) in an interview in the liner notes & it goes back to the recent=20 discussion of "fakers": "The more I worked in the States over the last=20 years, the more I realized where this music is coming from. Say you go to=20 church Sunday morning in Atlanta, you suddenly realize that what Ayler playe= d=20 is not pathetic or bizarre...But you only have to listen to Ayler's first ES= P=20 record, with what kind of love and desperation this man played his own=20 stories - and also what honesty."
The same goes for this band. Hamid Drake & William Parker lay down the=20 foundation & the two horns carry some serious smack. =20
