This was posted more than a week ago, and it seems nobody has followed that thread. Well there WILL be a '97 edition of the Victoriaville festival, (as usual it's never sure until real late), May 15--19, and the advance program can be seen at

As usual people will drive from all over North America, the regulars who'll be there will enquire about those who won't, you'll be able to rub elbows with the musicians at the Hotel Colibri bar, and a spendid time will be had by all.

The festival is run by Michel Levasseur, who is very good at getting money from government agencies (and private companies too). He also runs the Victo label.

The Arkestra played in 87, I think. There were two shows: a scheduled one, at the Grand Cafe, and an impromptu performance in the Sainte Victoire Church, due to a last-minute cancellation of the Don Cherry -- Nana Vasconcellos duet, who'd had a falling out or something. The church performance was almost without amplification and sounded very very good. The Grand Cafe show sounded good too, but comparing them made you realize the Arkestra doesn't need that much of a PA. Not miking a single horn is better than miking them all, but wrong.

I got to meet Mr Ra in the Grand Cafe. I was too tongue-tied to say much... "welcome to our little planet" or something like that.
