Sistas' Place, 456 Nostrand Avenue at Jefferson Avenue (where Jazz:=C2= =A0 A=20 Music of the Spirit Lives and Culture is a Weapon), begins its 16th Seas= on in=20 the tradition, paying homage to John Coltrane with an incredible=20 saxophonist and his group.=20 =20

This year's honor goes to saxophonist Azar Lawrence whose quartet=20 features pianist Benito Gonzalez, bassist Essiet Okun Essiet, and drum= mer Billy=20 Hart. Saturday, September 25@ 9 and 10:30pm.=20 =20 Azar Lawrence has a history which includes working in the bands of McCoy= =20 Tyner, Elvin Jones and Miles Davis, three people whose relationship to= John=20 Coltrane was of great importance to the music. He first came on the Jazz= =20 scene in the 1970s and amazed people that at such a young age he had mas= tered=20 the saxophone in such a phenomenal manner.
