Friends,

I can't tell you how happy I was to find this list...I had always hoped there were some enlightend Ra people on the 'net.

I'm only 21, but ever since I encountered Ra my life has, in some way, changed. Most of my access to the music has come through my radio stations record library, which fortunately has some great original Saturn releases. I'm wondering, is there anywhere I can get Sun Ra material other than the Evidence re-issues? I'm assuming Saturn LP's are impossible to come by. Damn, if I was only a couple decades older, coulda' gotten my hands on some of these things...;)

Hi, George - Welcome !

You will find this list to be an incredible resource. I have no idea how I would have ever gotten to know half of what I know about Sun Ra without it. Not only are there nice, knowledgable people, but we are also graced by such luminaries as Robert Campbell and Victor Simosko, both of whom write about Sun Ra material for Cadence and contribute liner notes to the Evidence releases. Trudy Morse has performed with the Arkestra, reading Ra's poetry both while Sunny was on the planet and since he left. I think that there is probably a wider range of Ra material available right now than perhaps any time in history. Of course, the Boston area has pretty top notch music stores, so my view may be biased.

If you are not familiar with LISTSERV mailing lists, then you should be sure to find out how to conduct search against the archives of this list. There is much valuable information available, especially Prof. Campbell's discography and tapeography. I hope to hear some of your opinions soon.
