Poetry Dec 25th 1976 and Cosmo Earth Fantasy

The recent discussion of the Dec 25th 1976 Ra poetry broadcast sent me back to listen to my old cdr of it but as often happens when listening to Sun Ra I was sent  off on another tangent. Firstly though, the music over which Ra intones his verse is 'Exotic Forest' from the lp 'Nothing Is' (ESP), 'The Cosmic Explorer' from Nuits De La Fondation Maeght Vol 1 (Shandar/Recommended) and finally 'Cosmo Earth Fantasy' from the lp of the same name(Saturn).

In Hal Rammell's fabulous essay included in the Atavistic cd re-issue of 'Strange Strings', Rammell mentions 'Interpretaion' from 'Solar Myth Approach vol 2' as being the only other existing recording from this era to use the original collection of strange string instruments coupled with Tommy Hunter's production.

The title track oft the lp 'Cosmo Earth Fantasy', assumed to be from around 1974, presumably on account of the lp's release date, also features an opening section of music using strange strings. Marshall Allen's Kora can be heard in this piece playing in a very similar vein to that heard on Strange Strange from 1966. Ra also exclusively plays only Hohner Clavinet on  this  recording and the whole thing sounds just like mid NYC  era Sun Ra music to my ears and the recording has the great T.Hunter sound. And who is playing that xylophone solo later in the piece? As Ra is occupied on keys at that moment my money is on John Gilmore.  Side two of  the 'Cosmo Earth Fantasy' lp has those  gorgeous three live tracks which I absolutely love -  'Love is for Always' The Song of  Drums' and 'The World of Africa'. These are from the Temple University show of September 20th 1974 which gave this lp the alternative title 'Temple-U'.

However, I reckon the dating of the title track needs a reconsideration. Oh, and The lp needs a proper re-issue of course!

ps I also reckon the 45 single version of  'Enlightment' (Saturn ES 538B) is from the same late 1960's recording session that produced the small group vocal numbers 'Satellite are Spinning' and  'Outerspaceways Inc.' on the Solar Myth approach lp's.
