i like the chronological version. the alphabetical one - there are
way too many album titles beginning with 'a' or 'the'. i might have
ignored the 'a' and the 'the' as the first word of the title and then
alphabetized? so 'the magic city' would appear it the m's and not in
the t's? a very nice job on that discography!

Talking about "The Magic City", it is generally assumed this refers to
Birmingham, Alabama. However, in the 1970s I was reading a book review
about female circumcision in East Africa, which had in its title "Le
Cite Magic..." I can't remember the rest of the title or the author.

Is there another Magic City?

The Magic City [was discography alert]

Julian,

Do you mean La Cité Magique, by Jacques Lantier?

Amazon.fr offers it used; year of publication was 1972.

That seems too late for The Magic City; I also don't know whether Sunny had much contact with French literature.

discography alert

Speaking of the discography, there is a hybrid out there, for sale at Dusty Groove at the moment, and it doesn't seem to be listed on the disco. One side is obviously from 'The Invisible Shield', but the other side does not match up with this description.

Sun RaSatellites Are Outerspaceways Inc ... LP
Saturn, Early 60s/1970. Very Good .... $79.99

A confusing mix of material, but with some great moments! One side of this set – the tracks "Island In The Sun", "Invisible Shield", and "Janus" – seem to have been recorded around 1970. "Island In The Sun" has a slow bass-heavy groove that's really compelling, and very spare. "Janus" has some great production, and lots of weird echoey bits! The other side features 2 noisier tracks under the "Satellites" title – both pretty spare, with lots of free piano from Ra.
(Purple label, Philly address, in a plain white sleeve.)
Anyone know what the other side consists of.

"Your brain is simply wired to a nostalgic sense of audio distortion. You hear warmth, you think you hear grandeur, space, subtlety, all these things . . . but actually you're just satisfying an old recording in your brain." -Daniel Richler on vinyl.

I have this one, bought from the group after a show years ago.

'island in the sun' one of my all time faves.
cb

by the way, report from suso that the alphabetical version of the discography has been changed per ihor's suggestion
